Fire damages Ogden home

OGDEN -- Fire caused an estimated $40,000 in damage this morning to a duplex at 1028 Capitol St.

Deputy Fire Chief Chad Tucker one apartment is vacant and a family of four lives in the other apartment.

They awoke and heard a crackling sound and smelled smoke. They left the home and called 911 at 7:08 a.m.

Fire crews found smoke and flames at the front of the structure, and the fire had reached some walls and the attic.

The fire was extinguished but the home is not habitable. The heat of the blaze also melted siding on the house next door, causing about $1,000 in damage to that structure.

One person was taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The Red Cross is aiding the family.

Cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Ogden fire responded with two engines, two ladders, one Battalion Chief, one paramedic rescue, and one ambulance for a total of 21 personnel.
