PLAIN CITY -- The Fremont Silver Wolves played a strong defensive game on Friday afternoon, claiming a 53-22 victory over Northridge in Region 1 girls basketball action.
The Fremont defense was impressive, holding Northridge to seven first-half points. But the Silver Wolves coaching staff came away pleased with the team's offensive performance as well.
Kylee Olsen and Mikkell Minnoch tallied 10 points apiece, Taniesha Daniels added nine and Amanda Wayment scored eight. Fremont (6-14, 3-6) edged ahead of Davis for fourth place in the standings, with a game to play.
Sydnee Acord paced Northridge (5-14, 0-9) with 10 points.
* LAYTON 48, DAVIS 27: At Kaysville, the Darts fell behind early and were unable to make up the margin after halftime.
Layton (18-1, 8-1) built a 38-14 lead after three quarters. Courtnee Wood scored 10 and eight other Lancers found the scoring column.
Jessica Richardson paced the Darts (10-10, 2-7) with 11 points.
Region 6
* EAST 41, CLEARFIELD 40: At Clearfield, the Falcons gave up a late lead at home.
Sia Otukolo scored 13 points, Ata Utuone added 11 and Madison Roemer chipped win with 10 for the Leopards, who earned their first league win.
Kaitlyn Stratton tallied nine points and Jaquoya Walton chipped in with eight for the Falcons (4-16, 3-6).
In other games, Cyprus knocked off Bountiful 53-37, and Woods Cross topped Highland 54-42.
