Police chief search taking a bit longer

OGDEN -- The search for a new Ogden police chief will probably take a little longer than city officials expected.

Mayor Mike Caldwell said it's not likely that the city will release any new information on a prospective chief this week, as an independent committee formed to advise the city is still narrowing its list of finalists.

"We were hoping to have someone in place by mid-February," Caldwell said, "but that might be a little optimistic right now."

Caldwell said the committee, which is made up of law enforcement officials with knowledge of Weber County, met Monday to discuss the 31 applications the city received.

The list has been narrowed to 10 since then, Caldwell said.

The job will pay between $90,919 and $123,008 per year.

Deputy Chief Wayne Tarwater is serving as interim chief.
