Former Ogden council candidate arrested

OGDEN -- A former Ogden City Council candidate was arrested late Saturday night for misdemeanor drug and traffic offenses following a motor vehicle stop.

Jennifer Jo Neil, 49, was booked into Weber County Jail for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, having an expired registration and failure to operate in a single lane.

She was released from jail Sunday morning on a $3,557 bond.

Her vehicle was pulled over at 11:46 p.m. Saturday by a Utah Highway Patrol trooper in the vicinity of 2nd Street and Wall Avenue, UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said Monday.

Neil said in a brief phone interview Monday she doesn't dispute the charges.

"I just make mistakes (like other people)," she said. "I will get an attorney as standard operating procedure."

In November's election, Neil lost to Richard Hyer in a race for the city council's Municipal Ward 2 seat.
