WEST HAVEN -- The Weber County Sheriff's Office is investigating the vandalism of about a dozen cars in West Haven and Hooper early Saturday.
Between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m., vandals threw tennis ball-sized rocks through rear and back windows of cars parked at various locations in the two cities, said Lt. Mark Lowther.
Damage to the cars is estimated at more than $7,000.
"It's a significant expense for the vehicle owners," Lowther said Monday. "They (the cost of broken windows) add up."
Deputies spent Saturday taking damage reports from car owners.
The vandalism appears to be random, and it isn't believed that the victims were specifically targeted, Lowther said.
"There is no rhyme or reason. It's a senseless crime."
No suspects have been identified, but it's possible the vandals are juveniles or young adults, Lowther said, adding that the sheriff's office usually apprehends those responsible for such crimes.
"We are fairly successful."
Anyone with information about the vandalism should call the sheriff's office at 801-778-6600.
