Man on trial for beating brother in Provo street

PROVO -- Trial is under way for a man accused of beating his brother nearly to death with a stick in the middle of a Provo street.

Prosecutors say Mark Davis and his brother, Charles Davis, had been arguing about a trailer and faced off with sticks Dec. 1, 2010, in Provo's Center Street.

Police say Mark Davis was struck in the head several times and had injuries so severe that doctors had to remove part of his brain. The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/zGB5HJ ) he told the courtroom Monday he can no longer work as an electrician and has difficulty understanding people.

Charles Davis' defense attorney says his client's actions were in self-defense.

Charles Davis has been charged with felony aggravated assault and faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
