242 lbs. of pot seized on truck in Evanston

EVANSTON, Wyo. -- Wyoming authorities say they've seized 242 pounds of marijuana from a truck hauling cars.

Troopers stopped the truck Tuesday on eastbound Interstate 80 near Evanston, near the Utah border. They inspected it after finding one of the cars wasn't listed in the truck's shipping records. They discovered 139 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of one car and 102 pounds in another.

The Wyoming Highway Patrol estimates the pot is worth about $1.7 million and believes the shipment was headed from California to Detroit.

The truck's driver, 50-year-old Hazem Izzat, was arrested and troopers have requested help from state investigators. It's not clear whether he has a lawyer.
