KAYSVILLE -- In a battle of serious basketball runs, the Darts had the last big surge.
Davis High's girls basketball team outscored Fremont 16-10 in the final quarter Thursday afternoon to post a 51-46 victory in the teams' Region 1 play-in game.
The victory gives the Darts a spot in the state 5-A tournament, which begins Tuesday at Salt Lake Community College. Davis and Alta will play at 12:50 p.m.
The Darts needed a win over Fremont on Friday just to force the play-in contest, and delivered with a 53-42 victory.
The Silver Wolves burst out to an 18-7 edge in the first period, thanks in part to a trio of 3-pointers from Keely Swander.
The Darts were able to stem the tide in the second period but still trailed 25-12 at halftime.
Davis revved up the offense in the third quarter, outscoring Fremont 23-11 in the period. They kep the pressure up in the final period and made 5 of 7 free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.
Davis (12-10 overall, 4-7 league) was led by Morgan Hartvigsen with 14 points, while Jessica Richardson added 13 points. Courtney Hurst added nine, while Katelyn Mager chipped in with eight for the Darts.
Swander led all scorers with 23 points, including seven 3-pointers. Amanda Wayment added eight points for the Silver Wolves, who finish the season with a 6-16 record, 3-8 in league games.
* EAST 46, CLEARFIELD 43: At Woods Cross, a couple of teams hoping to return to state tournament play for the first time in a few years squared off in Thursday's Region 6 play-in contest, but the Leopards found just enough to win by three and end Clearfield's season.
Roy, the fourth-place finisher out of Region 5, will play a cross-over game against the fifth-place finisher from Region 8 today or Saturday.

* ST. JOSEPH 51, MANILA 23: At Richfield, the Jayhawks turned up the pressure on Manila in Thursday's state quarterfinals and rolled to an 18-point win at the Sevier Valley Center.
St. Joseph will now meet Piute at 6 p.m. today in the state semifinals.
The Jayhawks limited Manila to six first-half points and led 27-6 at the midway break.
Katie Berry scored 12 for St. Joseph (15-4 overall), while Katie Panushka and Danielle Shinaut each added nine points in the win.
Manila was led by Janell Reed with nine points.
* WAYNE 63, LAYTON CHRISTIAN 30: At Richfield, the Eagles found the path to the semifinals clogged with Badgers and never got their offense untracked in the first half.
Wayne led 36-9 at halftime. Haley Robins led all scorers with 16 points, while Whitney Colmean added 10 and Sarah Taylor finished with 13 points for the Badgers.
Layton Christian was led by Alissa Atisme, who scored nine points, and Shayla Simpson, who added seven points.
The Eagles (10-7 overall) now take on Rich or Green River at noon today in the consolation bracket.
