Man arrested for beer theft, DUI

CLEARFIELD — Cody Jensen, 24, was arrested on suspicion of robbing a Maverik and driving under the influence.

He walked into the Maverik on 709 S. State St. shortly before noon and stole two beers, Clearfield Police Sgt. Kyle Jeffries said. The clerk ran after Jensen and told him to stop, but he got into his Honda Civic and backed up toward her, Jeffries said.

He came close enough to the clerk that she had to push off the back of his car to keep from getting hit.

Police found Jensen about a half-hour later, drinking the beers in a parking lot, Jeffries said.

He was booked into Davis County Jail for robbery, because officers considered his backing into the clerk to be assault during a theft, which is a second-deree felony.

He was also booked for driving under the influence and having an open container in his car.
