Orem teen accused of robbing 2 banks in 20 minutes

OREM -- An Orem teenager has been arrested on suspicion of robbing two banks within 20 minutes of each other Saturday afternoon after taking his mother's car.

Orem Police Sgt. Craig Martinez said the 16-year-old boy allegedly passed a note to tellers at drive-through windows asking for money and indicating he had a weapon.

He said the suspect was arrested after he was spotted walking unarmed near where his car was abandoned following the robberies of Central Bank and American First Credit Union.

The teen was taken into custody for investigation of armed robbery, and an undisclosed amount of money was recovered. Police also recovered a BB gun belonging to the suspect at another location.

He was taken to a youth detention center in Provo.
