MURRAY -- The Humane Society of Utah is offering a $3,000 reward for information in a recent spate of cat killings in the southwestern Salt Lake Valley.
The reward comes amid reports of cats disappearing, turning up wounded or being found dead in the suburbs.
Cruelty and torture of animals is a felony in Utah and carries a fine of up to $5,000 and up to five years in prison.
The humane society recommends pet owners protect their cats by keeping them indoors. Officials also recommend spaying or neutering and making sure cats have up-to-date vaccines.
