Coast Guard honors Clearfield native

The U.S. Coast Guard International Ice Patrol of New London has selected Marine Science Technician Second Class Cliffton Hendry as the unit’s Enlisted Person of the Year for 2011.

Hendry made significant contributions to Ice Patrol in support of the North American Ice Service (NAIS) Collaborative Arrangement, an international agreement comprising the Canadian Ice Service, the Ice Patrol, and the U.S. National Ice Center, the Coast Guard said in a news release.

Hendry worked to harmonize workflow and product distribution between the Ice Patrol and the Canadian Ice Service for all NAIS iceberg products, vastly improving watch efficiency and service to the maritime community.

Hendry’s nomination was forwarded to the U.S. Coast Guard First District in Boston, Mass., where he will compete against other men and women for selection as the First District Enlisted Person of the Year. He is originally from Clearfield and is the son of Diane Hyatt and Jon Rock Hendry.
