Well, now we know why they play hockey indoors.
The Ogden Mustangs and Park City Junior Moose had hoped to cap their first seasons in the Western States Hockey League with an outdoor game on Friday night at the Midway Ice Rink.
Both teams and their fans had talked about this game throughout the season. The squads gathered in Midway early Friday and had hoped to treat their fans to a great experience.
Unfortunately, after much deliberation, the rink's conditions were deemed unsafe and the game was canceled.
BYU coach Dave Rose advanced to the final round of the Infiniti Coaches' Charity Challenge, moving him one step closer to receiving $100,000 for the Children with Cancer Christmas Foundation.
Rose is up against Bob Huggins of West Virginia, Frank Haith of Missouri and Thad Matta of Ohio State.

Utah Jazz players visited local elementary schools and read to students on Thursday as part of the team's Be A Team Player - Read contest. The program focuses on increasing literacy skills and is held in conjunction with NBA Cares.
Thirty-eight elementary schools participated in the contest this season, with the top 10 receiving a visit from a Jazz player and an ice cream party for the student body. Two of the winners included Saint Olaf Catholic School of Bountiful and Syracuse Arts Academy of Syracuse.
Later, Jazz personnel and the coaching staff staged a basketball clinic for underprivileged youth at Zions Bank Basketball Center.

Four coaches will be honored by the Utah Sports Hall of Fame Foundation on March 22 at the 2012 Paul Ream Scholarship/Distinguished Service Awards Banquet at South Towne Expo Center.
This year's group includes Southern Utah football coach/AD Jack Bishop, well known BYU athletic trainer Earlene Durrant, boxing referee Jay Fullmer and longtime Tooele High School coach Larry Harrison.
Gov. Gary R. Herbert declared Leap Day as Jeremy Evans Day in the state. The declaration came four days after Evans was voted winner of the 2012 Sprite Slam Dunk contest in Orlando during NBA All-Star Weekend. ...

He replaces Sharrieff Shah, who left the broadcast team to be the cornerbacks coach at Utah. ... Also, KALL-AM 700 will broadcast 20 NASCAR Sprint Cup races this year. ... Ski Utah president Nathan Rafferty has been appointed to the Utah Tourism Board, while Joel Racker, president and chief executive officer of the Utah Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau, is the nex chairman.
