Springville home intruder had long rap sheet

SPRINGVILLE -- The man shot dead after breaking into a Springville house had a lengthy criminal record and had just been released from jail three weeks earlier.

Court records show 31-year-old Armando Martinez Jr. had convictions for theft, drugs, shoplifting, assault and criminal mischief since 1998.

Springville police have identified Martinez l as the intruder who broke into a Springville duplex, stopped to make himself a ham wrap, then woke up a couple in their bedroom and demanded they get cash from an ATM.

When the husband was ordered to get dressed, he retrieved a gun and shot Martinez once in the chest.

Martinez was most recently being held at Utah County jail for causing damage there -- court records said he scratched a window and told deputies he was "ready for a fight."
