It's a busy day for high school boys basketball in Utah. The state semifinals will be contested in the 1-A, 4-A and 5-A ranks.
In the 4-A semifinals, Olympus topped Provo 64-51 to earn a spot in Saturday's final at West Valley City's Maverik Center.
Region 6 champion Bountiful battled highly-touted Orem for three quarters but a controversial call turned the momentum toward the Tigers, who won 44-36 and claimed the second spot in the title game.
With the scored tied at 23-all, Bountiful moved the ball around for a final shot to end the third period. A Braves guard passed the ball to his teammate, who drilled the 3-pointer. But the official ruled a charge on the Bountiful player, negating the score.
Orem built a small lead in the final period, then held off several Bountiful charges at the end. The Braves saw their 14-game winning streak stopped a game short of the title.
Lone Peak and West Jordan will square off in the first 5-A semifinal, set for this evening. Brighton and Riverton will play in the second semifinal.
A busy day of action at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield includes four consolation-bracket contests leading up to Friday night's semifinals.
Layton Christian will meet Top of Utah rival Rich in the early semifinal, while Wayne and Bryce Valley will play in the late semifinal.
Liahona, Wayne, Green River, Duchesne and Panguitch all won consolation-bracket contests.
