HARRISVILLE -- City council members recently discussed the possibility of moving Heritage Days from August to June.
The change would allow the celebration to be combined with the opening of the new splash pad at Harrisville Park, 1350 N. Highway 89.
This year marks the city's 50th anniversary, and council members said they want it to be a memorable event.
"I'm really excited," Councilwoman Michelle Tait said. "I feel like the city is moving in a brand-new direction, and I feel like it will be wonderful for the city."
Councilman Grover Wilhelmsen said the change would help Heritage Days merge the past and present.
In the end, the star of the 2012 Heritage Days will be the new splash pad.
Wilhelmsen said, "It's exciting with the splash pad going in. It's a really neat icon."
