Vernal man dies in oil rig fall in North Dakota

STANLEY, N.D. -- A Utah man has died in a fall at an oil rig in northwestern North Dakota.

Mountrail County Sheriff Ken Halvorson says 22-year-old Jason McDonald of Vernal, Utah, died Friday night when he fell 80 feet from an oil derrick northeast of Stanley and landed on the rig platform.

McDonald was pronounced dead at a Stanley hospital. The investigation is continuing.
