Torch blamed for Monday fire in Fruit Heights

FRUIT HEIGHTS — A handyman who was sealing roofing with a torch on a house is believed to have accidentally started a fire on the 300 block of Edge Hill Drive on Monday evening.

Kaysville Fire Chief Brett Larkin said the 6:21 p.m. fire was put out quickly but caused between $5,000 and $10,000 in damage. He said much of the damage was from smoke.

Larkin said the family wouldn’t necessarily be displaced, depending upon how they will be able to cope with the smoke in their house.

The family was not home at the time of the fire.

Pets, including two birds, dogs and a cat, all were reported to be OK.
