SALT LAKE CITY -- A 13-year-old Taylorsville girl has died in a crash on Interstate 215 after the car driven by her teenage brother veered off the road.
Utah Highway Patrol officials say Chelsea Pearson died at the scene of the crash shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday in Salt Lake City.
Officials say the car was traveling at the speed limit when it gradually veered to the right, striking a power box, then a camera post with the passenger side.
It hit a large road sign and then went up a concrete barrier.
The girl was sitting in the passenger seat and was killed after her side of the car was extensively damaged.
Her brother, Joshua Pearson, was taken to the hospital but did not have serious injuries.
