If it's all about presentation, then the Thelma & Louise Half Marathon will surely be a blockbuster.
The new all-women's road race, set for May 12 (Mother's Day weekend) in Moab, is expected to draw more than 1,000 women and will benefit a local women's shelter and girls running programs.
Organizers say the race was conceived in the spirit of Thelma & Louise, the 1991 award-winning film about two good friends who find themselves on the run -- literally and figuratively -- and end up in the desert.
The downhill 13.1 mile course descends from Canyonlands National Park (near where the final scenes of the movie were shot) via a scenic highway. The event will sponsor the Girls On The Run group as well as the Seekhaven Family Crisis Center. The event promises to be low-impact on the environment.
