Prep baseball: 41 hits later, Tigers, Bees split early doubleheader

OGDEN -- Ogden and Box Elder split a baseball doubleheader on Saturday, with the Bees rallying for a 14-4 victory in the second game at Ogden High School.

In the opener, the Tigers won 11-6 thanks to a dozen hits. Hunter Anderson and JJ Stein each had a pair of hits for the Tigers. Stein and Brian Saunders each cracked doubles for the host team.

Joe Bischoff picked up the win on the mound for Ogden.

In the second game, Box Elder scored eight runs in the seventh inning.

Kaelton Heil doubled for the Bees. Jayk Brooks picked up the victory on the mound.

The teams combined for 41 hits on the day.

In another prep game, North Sevier topped visiting Layton Christian 5-4.

Softball

A large group of Top of Utah teams participated in the March Warm-Up tournament in the St. George area, with most teams going as far as their pitching could take them.

In Saturday's games, Clearfield defeated Dixie 9-3, Juan Diego topped Roy 5-3, Layton defeated Basic, Nev., 3-0, Maple Mountain topped Fremont 8-2, Northridge defeated Timpview 18-9.

Also, Davis defeated Box Elder 3-2, then beat Skyline 7-1, Las Vegas, Nev., topped Northridge 8-2, Mountain Crest edged Bishop Gorman, Nev., 7-4, Provo blanked Viewmont 10-0, Boulder City, Colo., topped Viewmont 7-1, Mountain View whipped Clearfield 19-0, Fremont defeated Page, Ariz., 3-1, Roy shut out Springville 11-0, Davis topped Cedar 10-2, and beat Orem 7-1, and Wasatch edged Layton 8-7.
