COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Elizabeth Smart says a Colorado girl showed rare courage when she escaped from a kidnapper by calling 911 from a store.
Smart, who survived a kidnapping ordeal in Utah when she was 14, spoke at a fundraiser in Colorado Springs on Saturday.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/A9knTD ) that Smart offered the Colorado girl the same advice her own mother gave her: Don't let the kidnapping overshadow your life.
The 9-year-old Colorado girl was kidnapped in Pueblo in January. She escaped the next day in Colorado Springs. She didn't attend the fundraiser.
Smart was abducted from her Salt Lake City bedroom in 2002 and was rescued nine months later. She and her father created the Elizabeth Smart Foundation to focus on the prevention of child abduction and sexual abuse.
