Boy, 14, arrested after fire at Price junior high

PRICE -- Authorities say a 14-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire at a junior high in Price prompted a school wide evacuation.

Officials say the fire was discovered about 9 a.m. Wednesday in a janitorial closet at Mount Harmon Junior High School.

Price Fire Chief Paul Bedont tells the Deseret News (http://bit.ly/zozpr4) the teen used an electrical appliance inside the closet to start the fire.

He was identified after officials reviewed school surveillance footage.

The fire was mostly out by the time fire crews arrived. Nobody was injured.

Damage is estimated at about $15,000 and is largely contained to the closet.

Bedont says the boy is cooperating with investigators, but his motive is unclear.

Classes were expected to resume as normal Thursday.
