Magna teen fatally shot after firing at officers

MAGNA -- Police say a 15-year-old boy was fatally shot after he fired at officers Sunday in Magna.

Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal says the shooting of Sean Morrison occurred after officers responded to an "ungovernable juvenile call" by his mother.

The teen left home on foot shortly after 8:30 a.m. carrying a .45-caliber handgun and wearing a black ski mask and bulletproof vest. He got the gun from inside the home.

Hoyal says the boy fired at officers after an initial confrontation and fired at them from behind a car a short time later.

The officers returned fire and struck Morrison. The boy was taken to a hospital, where he died.

Police detectives and the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office are conducting a protocol investigation of the shooting.
