Weber State runners claim Big Sky weekly awards

OGDEN Two Weber State runners were named Big Sky Conference outdoor track and field men’s and women’s track athlete of the week.

Sophomore Mike Hardywas the men’s track athlete and junior Amber Henrywas the women’s track athlete.

Hardy, a Morgan native,won the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase. He posted the second fastest time in theNCAA Division I in the event this season, running at the Aztec Invitational in San Diego, Calif. Competing for the first time in his career in the event, Hardy posted a winning time of 9:08.75 to win by nearly 12 seconds. He followed that up by finishing fifth in the 1,500 meters in a career best time of 4:01.90.

Henry, out of Mountain View, Wyo.,won two events, the 3,000 meter steeplechase and 1,500 meters, at the Aztec Invitational. In both races, her time is currently ranked number one among NCAA Division I athletes. Competing in the steeplechase for the first time in her collegiate career, Henry posted a time of 10:12.00. That is the fifth best time in Weber State women’s outdoor track and field history. She came back on Saturday morning to win the 1,500 meters in a time of 4;24.84. That is the sixth best time in Weber State women’s outdoor track and field history.
