MORGAN -- It's shaping up to be a busier year than usual for Morgan firefighters.
A grass fire Saturday afternoon marked their seventh this year, and it isn't even the dry season yet, said Morgan Fire Chief Dave Rich. For comparison, he said the department fought 23 grass fires last year.
A fire got out of control while a resident was doing agricultural burning on Orchard Way near Old Highway Road, just outside incorporated Morgan city. The fire damaged a tree, which fell on a telephone line about 4:45 p.m.
The fire burned up about a quarter of an acre by the time firefighters had it out, Rich said.
They also lifted the tree off the power line, which did not appear to be damaged, he said. A crew will be out on Monday to make sure, he added.
Rich did not have an immediate cost estimate of the damage.
