Cities graded on transparency

A national group that reviews the transparency of state and local governments has given Syracuse and North Salt Lake City the highest rating of any Davis County communities for the information it provides on its community websites.

Sunshine Review gave both cities a B grade in evaluating their websites for openness and access to public records, which is the highest grade of any of the 11 Davis County communities graded by the national group. Only Woods Cross, which received a B minus, was close.

By contrast, Bountiful, Centerville, Clearfield, and Layton all received C grades, while Farmington, Kaysville and Sunset all received a C minus. Clinton received a D, the lowest grade of any of the local communities.

Sunshine Review had 10 different categories in assessing the transparency of a community’s website including; budget, meetings, elected officials, administrative officials, permits/zoning, audits, contracts, lobbying, public records and taxes.
