Utah woman killed in avalanche in Canada

SALT LAKE CITY -- Authorities say a Utah woman and a London man were killed in an avalanche during a backcountry skiing trip in Canada.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say 30-year-old Katie Aring of Salt Lake City and 29-year-old Ryan Keene of London were killed in the slide Wednesday in the Bonnington Mountain Range near Blewett, British Columbia.

The two were part of a group of four skiers and one guide on a heli-ski outing.

The group had just finished a run and was waiting for the helicopter to pick them up when the avalanche triggered from above descended faster than they could run.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports Airing was from Ohio and recently moved to Utah. She was a freelance contract designer for footwear and illustration packaging, and a competitive skier.
