OGDEN -- Ogden Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1481 is holding a Spam-intensive welcome home party for Vietnam War veterans.
The party will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the post, 907 W. 12th St., and is designed to create an atmosphere of camaraderie among veterans.
The evening's events will include remarks by local Vietnam veterans and Marriott-Slaterville Mayor Keith Butler, who also is a veteran of the war in Korea.
Dinner will be potluck with the theme "101 Ways to Abuse Spam," the canned luncheon meat that was sent to the troops by the shipload.
"Grundles of our warriors developed a personal attachment to Spam," said event coordinator Dennis Howland, a Vietnam vet. "It was like going from a bologna sandwich to a steak dinner."
Donations will be accepted for dinner, with proceeds going to programs for veterans and those in our armed forces.
