Utah launches tourism push in neighboring states

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah tourism officials are banking on bringing their western state neighbors to state and national parks this summer.

The Utah Office of Tourism launched a $2.2 million TV ad campaign this week on stations in Denver, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Portland, and San Francisco.

The campaign, dubbed "Utah Life Elevated," also includes a redesigned, smartphone-friendly website and digital billboards. It highlights outdoor recreation activities, shopping, dining and historical sites.

Utah tourism official Leigh von der Esch says the promotion comes as rising gas prices may push residents in western states to vacation closer to home.
