Joshua Mayers' MLS power rankings

Team (prev. rank) Comment

1. Sounders FC (2) Takes over at No. 1 after another strong home win. Will mounting injuries become a worry?

2. Sporting K.C. (3) The 15th MLS team to ever start 3-0. Of that group, only the '06 Wizards missed the playoffs.

3. Real Salt Lake (1) Had a fluky loss to Chivas but could get Morales, Saborio back in the starting lineup soon.

4. Houston (4) Only four more road games to go before the May 12 unveiling of BBVA Compass Stadium.

5. FC Dallas (5) Kevin Hartman stopped his 14th penalty kick last week. One more will tie the MLS record.

6. L.A. Galaxy (6) Got last weekend off. Some will say they get this weekend off, too, hosting the lowly Revs.

7. San Jose (11) A three-goal win in Toronto was the team's best road result since Aug. 13, 2003 in Dallas.

8. Portland (7) Slow starters have allowed the first goal in all three games this season. Still 1-1-1.

9. Vancouver (10) The only team yet to allow a goal has players from 17 different countries, an MLS high.

10. Chicago (12) Dominic Oduro is off to a blazing start with goals in each of the Fire's first two games.

11. N.Y. Red Bulls (13) Henry led the way with two goals, assist vs. Rapids, but can N.Y. win if he's not great?

12. Colorado (9) Jeff Larentowicz (suspension) had his streak of 73 straight games snapped last week.

13. Toronto FC (8) Dreadful 0-2 start in MLS didn't inspire much confidence heading into the CCL quarterfinals.

14. Columbus (16) International newcomers Olman Vargas and Milovan Mirosevic each have goals already.

15. D.C. United (14) Current four-game winless streak at RFK Stadium ties the second-longest in team history.

16. Chivas USA (18) Stunned RSL in Rio Tinto Stadium on a goal by Casey Townsend. Can the rookie keep it up?

17. New England (19) Saer Sene's goal after just 28 seconds was all the Revs needed in the season's first win.

18. Montreal (17) Road-heavy schedule doesn't get easier for the expansion side with trips to N.Y., RSL coming.

19. Philadelphia (15) The only 0-3 team in the league has lost six in a row in all competitions, the club's worst run.
