THATCHER -- A 20-year-old Thatcher man was charged this week with having sex with a 13-year-old girl in Idaho.
Bo Brady Burdick, a volunteer firefighter, was charged with one count of interstate travel with the intent to engage in illicit sexual contact in U.S. District Court on Wednesday.
In February 2011, then-19-year-old Burdick sent the Idaho girl a friend request through Facebook, according to court documents. The criminal complaint adds that they messaged back and forth for a short time before Burdick gave her his cellphone number and started texting her.
When Burdick asked her to send him nude pictures of herself, she took a few photos and emailed them to him, the documents state, and the girl told police that Burdick sent her a nude photo of himself.
In June, Burdick, who had turned 20, went to Idaho to meet the girl and took her to his hotel room, where they sat on a bed and talked, according to the complaint. The investigators state that the girl felt she should not be in the room because she was only 13, but Burdick "went for it," grabbed her, started kissing her and had sex with her.
Burdick apologized afterward, she went home and he left town the next morning, the documents state.
The girl had been using an iPod Touch to text Burdick, but her mother found out the two had been talking and took the device away, the documents state. Burdick gave the girl a different iPod Touch so they could still text, the girl told investigators.
Her father found the second iPod Touch, and when her parents confronted the girl about it, she told them about Burdick and that they had sex, the documents state.
The parents gave the two iPod Touches and their daughter's laptop to investigators, who found nude images and bits of conversations between them, court documents state.
On Tuesday, investigators questioned Burdick and he admitted that he had sex with the Idaho girl, the documents show.
