Fire damages Farmington home

FARMINGTON — Firefighters arrived just in time Friday evening to save a house from burning down.

A resident of the home at 926 S. 50 East smelled smoke and ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911 at 5:20 p.m., said Fire Chief Guido Smith.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the south end of the single-story home, keeping it from reaching the attic, which would have allowed it to spread enough to destroy the house, Smith said.

Smith praised the resident for calling for help from outside the home.

Smith did not have an estimate on the damage, and the investigation is continuing, but he suspects the fire might have been electrical.
