WEST JORDAN -- One of the men arrested in the death of a 15-year-old Riverton girl faces new charges for a separate incident shortly after the homicide.
Court records accuse 30-year-old Veanuia Vehekite of a break-in at a Taylorsville home where police say he shot a dog.
The Stansbury Park man was charged Thursday with assault, burglary and animal cruelty for the March 12 break-in.
Vehekite was booked into Salt Lake County jail last week for investigation of the murder of Anne Kasprzak.
A jail report says Vehekite helped move the unconscious girl in a tarp after she was sexually assaulted by another man who also faces charges.
Kasprzak's family reported the girl missing March 10. Her body was found in the Jordan River the next day.
Vehekite's public defender in a January case charging drug possession didn't immediately return a phone message Friday from The Associated Press.
