LAYTON — Despite scoring 27 runs in a pair of wins on Wednesday in non-league baseball action, Clearfield High baseball coach Justin Abbott focused on the Falcons’ pitching performance.
“Our pitchers went after people, and we had good defense behind them,” Abbott said. “Our goal is to take it one pitch, one inning, one game at a time.”
Northridge High hosted Bonneville and Clearfield for a tripleheader on Wednesday. Clearfield outslugged Bonneville 17-10 in the opener behind Logan Neerings’ pitching and hitting performance, then topped Northridge 10-0 in the finale behind Cam Facer’s complete-game four-hitter.
In between, host Northridge dropped a 15-1 battle to the Lakers.
“I tell the guys we can always control two things — attitude and effort,” Abbott said after the Falcons upped their overall record to 5-7. “The staff has put them in a position to win, and right now they are giving 110 percent. We want to be successful.”
In the opener, Neerings rapped a triple and double as Clearfield scored seven in the first inning, then after Bonneville chipped away at the lead, the Falcons scored eight in the fourth to put the game away. Facer, Isaiah Lozano and Dylan Moore added doubles for Clearfield.
