OGDEN -- An Ogden police officer is on paid administrative leave after firing at a robbery suspect.
Police believe Noe Gonzalez, 20, was robbing someone who had been walking down the sidewalk on the 2200 block of Monroe Boulevard about 12:35 a.m. Thursday.
Officers arrived on the scene to see the suspect get into the passenger seat of a vehicle that took off, said Ogden Police Lt. Tony Fox.
When the officers tried to pull the southbound vehicle over a block away, Gonzalez got out and ran, Fox said.
An officer chased him on foot before stopping him in the backyard of a home on the 2300 block of Liberty Avenue. There was a confrontation in which the officer fired his gun, Fox said. The shot hit a garage.
Gonzalez, who Fox believes was not armed, gave up after that. No one was hurt.
Police arrested Gonzalez on suspicion of robbery, avoiding apprehension, assault on a peace officer and unlawful consumption of alcohol.
Per policy, the officer was put on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.
The officer's name was not released.
