Syracuse recognized for financial report

SYRACUSE -- Syracuse City has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by a nationally recognized government association.

The city received the award last month from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, according to a joint press release issued by the association and city.

This achievement, awarded to City Finance Director Stephen Marshall, "is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management," GFOA officials stated.

The award is for the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) of the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011. The report was judged by an impartial panel, whose goal was to determine if it demonstrated a "spirit of full disclosure," GFOA officials said.

This is the second straight year the city has received this honor.
