Eagle Scouts start road safety project

FARMINGTON— An Eagle Scout group in Utah is launching a road safety project to honor one of their members who was killed while walking his bicycle in a crosswalk across a Farmington street.

The group is working to get orange traffic safety flags installed at the intersection where 16-year-old Andrew Tolman was hit by a Ford SUV last month.

Police say Tolman suffered severe head trauma and died while a medical helicopter was taking him to the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

The SUV driver told investigators she was driving west and had trouble seeing because of the glare from the setting sun.

Brothers Spencer and Hunter Benson say they want to recognize their friend’s death by encouraging traffic safety.
