Trial set for woman in Nance case

FARMINGTON -- A two-day trial has been set for a woman accused of helping a man who police say shot his father.

Judge John R. Morris set the jury trial for Sept. 5 and Sept. 6 for Karla Jean Puffpaff, 48, of Layton.

Puffpaff, who appeared in 2nd District Court on Monday, is charged with one count of second-degree obstructing justice.

Police said Puffpaff picked up Joseph Allen Nance, 29, on March 19, 2010, shortly after he killed his father, Gregory A. Nance, at the Far West Motel in Kaysville. The motel has since been razed.

Nance has been charged with first-degree felony murder and third-degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
