Layton hiker, 17, rescued after injuring leg

LAYTON — A 17-year-old injured his leg while hiking in Adams Canyon and had to be rescued Tuesday.

The youth was hiking with a friend when he slipped and fell near the falls, the destination of the two-hour hike, Layton Fire Battalion Chief Robert Adams said. The fall in the rocky area seemed to have broken the lower part of one of his legs, so the youth called for help on his cellphone around 5 p.m., Adams said.

Davis County Search and Rescue, Davis County Sheriff’s Office and Layton firefighters found the youth near the falls and brought him back down.

Rescuers save two or three people every year from the same, hazardous spot, Adams said. He advised everyone to hike with someone and carry a cellphone, as the youth did.
