Washington 'exploits the toil of others'

Editor,

Our government was set up to secure the blessings of liberty. Those blessings become less secure. Lincoln said the essence of slavery is "you toil and work and earn bread, and I'll eat it." Exploiting the toil of others seems to be Washington's guiding star, whether it be to blunt the results of unconscionable government mandated business practice, or to finance the lifestyle and re-election of the aristocracy, or to pay for the edict putting our food supply in automobile fuel tanks, or to redistribute wealth and subsidize the destruction of the family. Regardless of the recipient, it is the taxpayer's bread being eaten.

Government fiscal irresponsibility has pushed tax freedom day to April 12. It would be even later, except for the fact that Congress borrows 40 cents of every dollar it spends. We may not yet suffer abject servitude, but we are well over a quarter of the way to December 31. Perhaps moving Election Day to April 15 might offer relief to those who groan under burdens laid upon them by a profligate Congress.
