LAYTON -- A driver had to be flown to a hospital Thursday morning after his car ran into the back of parked semitrailer on a rain-slick section of Highway 89 in Layton.
The accident happened about 10:15 a.m. near the off-ramp leading to State Road 193, said Layton Police Lt. Garret Atkin.
A man driving a Nissan Altima heading north went off the road to the right, colliding with the semitrailer that had its flashers on. The man had to be extricated by emergency crews, Atkin said. His injuries were serious enough to require him to be airlifted to an area hospital.
Two people were in the semitrailer but neither were injured. The names of those involved in the accident weren't released pending notification of families, Atkin said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, Atkin said. The section of road where the accident happened was blocked to traffic for more than an hour.
