Man busted for punching girlfriend

KAYSVILLE — A man who police said decided to assault his girlfriend didn’t realize the police station was a block away.

Ernest John Poulsen, 47, of Salt Lake City, was booked in the Davis County Jail by Kaysville police on Thursday.

Poulsen is accused of punching his girlfriend several times in the head in front of the library at 440 N. Main St., just a block away from the police station, said Officer Jeff Randall.

A witness saw Poulsen hitting the woman and called 911, Randall said. When officers arrived, Randall was walking away from the area.

Police learned Poulsen also had a $50,000 warrant out for his arrest from 3rd District Court. He is charged in two cases there — one in 2011 and another in March of this year. According to the probable cause statements in both cases, Poulsen attempted to strangle two women.

The Davis County Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case before filing formal charges in 2nd District Court.
