Now that school is almost over, the coaches are busy going around the country and recruiting athletes. The coaches give these athletes scholarships which can include tuition, books, board, and room. These scholarships are awarded to many athletes who have not paid a dime in taxes to the state of Utah, nor have the parents of these athletes paid Utah taxes. So, my taxes are going to provide an education to out-of-state athletes. Scholarships should be reserved for athletes whose parents pay taxes in Utah. Perhaps we should call it the Utah Athletic University or Weber State Athletic University. Then we could fire all the academic professors and just concentrate on athletics. Is it that important to have a winning team? Are these academic or athletic institutions?
