CLEARFIELD -- Sticking with the same garbage removal provider means unchanging rates for residents.
The city council recently approved an agreement for residential solid waste collection services. The current agreement expires June 30. The new agreement, beginning July 1, is for a two-year period.
Waste Management of Utah, Inc., who currently provides services, was one of four bidders.
City Manager Adam Lenhard said that Waste Management was chosen because it had higher scores in many categories, including price. Plus, he said, they already have all the equipment in the city, including trash cans.
The contracted amount is $722,674.40. Other bidders came in as high as roughly $967,000.
At one time, the city provided its own trash services. However, Lenhard said a company that specializes in it can do it more efficiently and cheaper than the city.
