Ronald H. Smith of North Ogden and his twin brother Donald R. Smith of Washington, Utah, celebrated their 80th birthdays on April 20.
Ronald will celebrate with a family dinner at the Maddox Ranch House Restaurant on April 21. Donald's family will hold an open house in Washington.
Born to Charles H. and Eliza H. Smith on April 20, 1932, they have been close brothers and friends. They graduated from Ogden High School.
Ron married Ellen Larsen on June 29, 1956, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. He was employed by Scowcrofts, the Union Pacific Railroad, Remington Rand Shaver Division and Thiokol, retiring from the U.S. Forest Service. He served in the LDS Cannery for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trips to Bear Trap, Mont., working with the youth, teaching Boy Scouts, taking them hiking and camping, and taking annual trips to Yellowstone National Park and Jackson Hole, Wyo. He has three children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Don married Carol LaVell Barker on March 14, 1951, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. She died May 4, 2011, after 60 years of marriage. He enjoys spending time with family and being in the outdoors camping. He was a square dance caller for many years, where he and LaVell made many friendships. Some of his interests include woodworking, serving in the St. George LDS Temple and helping others. He has six children, 35 grandchildren and 77 great-grandchildren.
