FARMINGTON -- A break in a 2-inch gas line closed a few downtown Farmington businesses and the Memorial Davis County Courthouse for 90 minutes Wednesday after employees were forced to evacuate.
The gas line was in a section of Main Street, where Farmington city is doing roadwork.
The incident occurred around noon, said Davis County Commissioner John Petroff Jr.
Petroff said he was in a meeting in the courthouse when he could smell gas. Within seconds of smelling the gas, someone hit the alarm in the building and everyone went out in an orderly fashion, he said.
Once outside, Petroff said, he could hear the noise caused by the gas escaping from the line.
While crews repaired the line, county workers, a total of about 200 employees, went to lunch, Petroff said. The line was repaired, with workers returning to the building by 1:30 p.m.
