SALT LAKE CITY -- Three local educators and a volunteer are recipients of the 2012 Huntsman Awards for Excellence in Education.
The recipients join the ranks of 201 previous winners, who have received $10,000 each and a crystal obelisk, as well as being honored at a banquet.
This is the first year the Mark H. Huntsman Award has been awarded. The award was named after the youngest Huntsman family member whose mental disabilities illustrate the importance of excellence in special education.
Local recipients and their awards are:
SBlt Julie Larsen, principal, Oak Hills Elementary in Bountiful, elementary school principal of the year.
SBlt Kevin Poff, teacher, Mueller Park Junior High in Bountiful, middle school teacher of the year.
SBlt Sam Clemmons, Fremont Elementary School in Sunset, the Mark H. Huntsman Award.
SBlt Phyllis Savage, Ogden School District, volunteer of the year.
