Cause of Ogden house fire sought

OGDEN — Investigators are trying to find the cause of a blaze that damaged a family home Friday evening.

Around 9:50 p.m., the family heard a popping sound from just outside their garage at 611 Gramercy Ave., and found a fire, said Ogden Fire Battalion Chief Corey Barton.

They unsuccessfully tried to put it out with an extinguisher, he said.

A passer-by called 911 after seeing the 20-foot-tall flames burning out of the garage. Firefighters from Ogden and the North View Fire Department arrived within minutes.

The flames spread to a truck in a driveway to the south of the house, as well as to part of the home to the north of the residence. Firefighters contained the damage to the family’s home to the garage, two vehicles and the kitchen.

The family may be able to live in the home again after repairs, Barton said.

The family of three is staying with relatives for the time being, he said.
