Prep baseball: Royals keep playoff hopes simmering

LOGAN -- For the Royals, the playoffs are here.

Roy High's young baseball team has its sights set on the last state 4-A playoff berth, and knows it must get on a winning streak to accomplish the feat.

"As far as I am concerned, every game is a must-win," Roy coach Eric Jones said.

A day after dropping a tough 1-0, 11-inning thriller to Logan at home, Roy bounced back for a 7-1 win over the Grizzlies in Logan.

"Most games this year we've pitched well enough to win. But we've struggled to play defense and at the plate," Jones said.

Garrett Bowman tossed a complete-game four-hitter, striking out 12 on 118 pitches with two walks.

Cy Bambrough, Connor McGuire, Trevor Kennedy and Jaden Titensor had two hits each for Roy. The Royals scored four in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
